Well, so uh, Noct is my BFF. He was my first friend, actually. We went to grade school together, and I wanted to be his friend, but, uh... I didn't get up the nerve to say 'hi' to him until high school. [And, realizing their worlds probably have different school systems.] I was 15 by then.

So, I uh... I'm not like, umm... Sure exactly what to say? Like, I tried to go up to a girl once and ask her where she got her ice-cream, and she kinda looked at me funny and just sorta pointed and then her friend came over, or girlfriend, I dunno, but there were two of them so I was like, "Okay, thanks." I, uh, wasn't really sure where else to go with that.
Hm. Sounds like she wanted to make you aware that she had a girlfriend so you wouldn't hit on her. Maybe she had bad experiences in the past, who knows? Technically she answered your question, though.

It's all very situational, too. Maybe she just didn't want to talk, just like any guy might not want to talk right then. Doesn't have much to do with gender but with everything else.
Depends on the circumstances, my friend. Let's say a tavern? I'd nod at her first to get her attention and see if she's interested in a chat at all. A nod back or a smile is usually a good tell.
