It does. Most of my team also have a not-so-stellar past and a lot of us had dealt with people trying to impose on others. We don't need that here. But no point on talking about it again and ruin your mood.

If you used to be part of a carnival, how come you and Fjord started traveling together? If you don't mind sharing

Oooh. Yes, he definitely does need that. He'd be all embarrassed but secretly happy.

Sounds like our teams are similar. [ He says, fondly. ] I traveled with the Fletching and Moondrop Carnival of Curiosities all my life, until we ran into trouble in a small village. We've run into a lot of problems before, but this time people died. Gustav, our carnival master, took the fall for the bullshit that happened and the carnival couldn't go on without him... so we all split apart. Me and my best fiend Yasha went with the people that helped us try to fix the fucking mess, and since that was Fjord and his people, it started right there.

More reason to do it then, even if he will be a bit embarrassed.

[ Still. They all could use more nice things in life. ]

They do, it's a shame they're not here. [ Peter misses them like a lost limb. ] That sounds like an awful beginning but at least you got new good friends out of it. My team, we broke out of jail. They got me in jail first, actually, then we broke out of it together, and had to go save the galaxy.

[ Man, he really likes Peter. ]

I wouldn't trade my friends for the world, so even if I miss it it's made me a better person to be with them.

[ He chuckles at the mention of jail breakouts and the like. ]

Strangely enough there was some of that with us as well. What is a galaxy, though?

[ He likes molly a lot too, he's always fun and interesting to talk with and it looks like they have plenty of things in common. ]

I think there's something about meeting people in a difficult situation that really makes those bonds solidify in the sort of friendships that last a long time.

...and I agree fully with that. If you fight, bleed and overcome struggles together, it creates strong bonds. A found family.

[ If he sounds a little melancholy, it's both because he misses the rest of them, and the knowledge that he's not physically part of that family anymore. ]

I think it's sweet that someone so big and impressive looking it's actually a softie at heart. Don't tell him I say that.

[ Or do, Peter's not Molly's boss. He's just not sure Fjord would appreciate it. ]

Peter huffs but this tone of voice makes it clear that he doesn't mean his words.

I lost someone very important to me back home as well, got her back, and then lost her a second. I can imagine how Fjord felt when he saw you and how he would react if you disappeared.

God, the turn this conversation took. Sorry about that.

[ Molly chuckles slightly, even if it's a bit stiff due to the rest of their conversation. ]

..and I don't know. I don't know all the details, but me and a few others of the Nein were trying to save Fjord and two others of our friends from a slaver. Fjord told me the surviving three managed to free them afterwards, so if my death helped in any way... that's worth it.

[ Easy to say if he had actually had died already, but now he had to live with the grief of all he will lose. ]

I'm sorry. It's just good to know I'm not alone.

You might be onto something.[ His friends back home are also awful, indeed. ]

You could protect those you cared about, at least, it's very noble. [ And frankly more than he managed to do. ]

It's ok. Sucks to be us but misery loves company. And It gives more reason to enjoy the present as much as we can.
