OVERVIEW

๐ŸŒ™ FIRST IMPRESSIONS

VISUAL: Molly is a lavender-colored tiefling said to be of slightly indistinguishable gender from a distance. He is of an average height and with the build of a swordsman and performer. His wavy, lightly curled hair is dark purple and his eyes are completely crimson without visible pupils or whites.

As many tieflings, he has curved ram-like horns and a spade-tipped tail courtesy of his infernal ancestry, and a sharp fangs. His tail has some knolls or bumps going from the base to about halfway down before it turns smooth. It's about a foot and a half longer than his legs and trails on the ground if not lifted.

He is also covered in thin horizontal scars all the way down his throat and chest, as well as many on his arms and hands.

TATTOOS: On the right side of his face are tattooed peacock feathers trailing down into a peacock on his shoulder. A snapdragon floral piece entwines with a snake coiling down his arm with its head on the back of his hand. The eye of the snake is red, and so is one of the feather 'eyes' on his neck.

Another eye within a pyramid is located between his shoulder blades, and by his hairline is yet another eye, seemingly attacking the pyramid with rays. Flanking and connecting through it like a mantle is a large moon and sun. Yet another red eye can be found on his palm on the snake hand. There are nine of them in total, but not all places have been revealed yet.

FASHION: Oh dear. Mollymauk is an absolute mess of colors and materials. Most ostentatious is his vibrant coat covered in embroidery, but his pants are split in two patterns, his doublet has both a plaid collar and colorful sleeves (if you look closely, they're not the same!), and his shirt rides ridiculously low on his chest.

Add a pair of thigh-high leather boots to that and a whole heap of mismatched jewelry, and you have a Molly.

DEMEANOUR: Molly is larger-than-life, impossible to ignore and full of confidence. He is described as a literal and figurative peacock, flirty and dramatic with an eagerness for experiences and finding everything delightful around him.

SOUND: Molly is voiced by TALIESIN JAFFE, and has a lazy cadence, slightly breathy with a decadent way of stretching the words out. There's a bit of a wandering accent to the whole thing, with (kind of) a hint of Irish. (It's an ongoing joke that Taliesin just couldn't do it right.)

SCENT: He's said to smell like Nag Champa essential oil/incense and spice.

MENTAL INFORMATION: He is amnesiac and has no memory of anything in his past, which he's very much keeping that way. He only woke up as Molly two years ago, and has no special mental defenses.

MAGICAL INFORMATION: Molly is technically a magic-user even if he can seem to be a melee fighter at first. He doesn't really cast spells like other magical classes, because his magic is all is blood-related. Anyone that can sense demons/devils might pick up a tiny bit of it in him.

๐ŸŒ™ HEADCANONS

FEATURES: Molly's height is 5'10 (same height as Caleb), but adds about an inch more for the horn curve. His body is a mix of a dancer and swordsman, lithe but strong.

His eyes have the slightest hint of a pupil inside if you look very close, and he has both upper and lower fangs - even if the lower ones are only slightly pointed. The old Feat of Devilstongue was said to give a forked tongue, so I'm including that on him as well. He has claw-like nails that he files down for funtimes, and enjoys painting them.

The most of Molly's scar tissue is on the back of his neck, as he's seen to use that place the most for his Crimson Rites. Some of his scars lack feeling when touched and others are very sensitive. The most visible scars are on his chest, arms and neck, but he also has a few lighter ones on his thighs from dropping his swords when learning to juggle them - plus the average amount of adventurer hiccups in all kinds of places.

As of Episode 114, I imagine that he has two more eyes on his chest, over his heart. I'm waiting to see where the last ones are, so I'll keep that vague.

I headcanon that tiefling horns have the same build as cow horns - they do not shed since they are attached to the skull. There's feeling at the bases but otherwise it's numb. They have a fleshy center about three inches from the head before they turn into horn tissue, and cutting/breaking horns there will make them bleed something fierce. The only way to stop that bleeding is to cauterize it, and that is not easy since tieflings are fire resistant. Usually acid is required. Unless cut and burnt at that fleshy center, horns will grow slightly until about mid-twenties.

Molly usually bunches up pillows under his neck to avoid pressure on his horns when sleeping, and wears horn caps on the ends both to protect them from chipping, poking holes in things and just to look nice. The holes drilled in his horns he woke up with weaken them a little, but his former self has filled the edges with a natural resin both to make sure he doesn't get things stuck inside the horns, and to strengthen them.

NSFW: Dick facts! 6 inches of PURPLE DICK. His tiefling blood makes it just a little bit inhuman, with a more arrow-like tapered head and a few v-shaped ridges at the very base. It's just a tad bigger than average size with a 4'5" thickness, shape curving just slightly upward. Pretty. (Canonly the prettiest dick in the Mighty Nein according to Jester, so it must be!) It's slightly darker lavender in color, especially at the head where it turns an almost-violet.

Molly has lightly trimmed plum pubic hair, doesn't grow a lot of body hair in general but if definitely the kind to manscape a bit. He has average balls with a tiny bit of dangle.

He's not overly toned, just a hint of abs under an otherwise smooth stomach, and with narrow hips but a nice amount of ass, perfect to hold and look at in those tight leggings. His nipples (and lips) are the same color as the head of his cock, a darker lavender. (He notably has no piercings in canon, so I'm going with that.) Inner parts of him, such as inside his mouth and his hole both have a pinker color, similar to people of darker 'natural' skintones.

His tail is sensitive to be stroked and kissed, especially at the base and the spade. Pulling it during rough sex is hot, just like grabbing his horns when he goes down on someone. Ear tips, nipples, inner thighs and above his hip bones are some of his favorite places to be touched, licked and kissed.

Molly's favorite positions are on top or on all fours, both when giving and receiving. He likes feeling the breath and closeness of someone at his back, likes showing off when on top and likewise adores when someone is showing off for him. Slow and gentle missionary is great as well, even if it's so much easier to feel deeper emotions that way and that's something he needs to work on accepting.

He has no specific preference in sexual partners other than that they should be fully adult (20+), healthy and be able to joke and have fun in bed. Sex, gender and body type doesn't matter, and 'healthy' means not diseased or dirty (like rotten teeth), not a preference for just the skinny and muscular types. Being 'interesting' in some way will definitely get Molly wanting a taste, too. Molly also prefers experienced partners, but isn't against teaching virgins how to feel great.

character information
โ— name: Lucien Nonegan Mollymauk Tealeaf
โ— canon: Critical Role: Season 2
โ— canon point: Episode 19
โ— age: Physically and mentally adult (somewhere around 25-30?), chronologically 2

โ— (canon) background: Molly's Wiki

Synopsis: Two years ago, Mollymauk did not exist. The first thing he remembers is digging himself out of a shallow grave, only able to utter the words 'empty'. He joined The Fletching and Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities, and was given the name Mollymauk Tealeaf (from empty - MT) by the carnival master Gustav Fletching.

When the adventure begins, he arrives with the carnival to the small rural town of
Trostenwald in order to set up a show, but the show is interrupted by an old man turning into a zombie in the middle of the tent. Together with his close friend Yasha and a ragtag group of adventurers, he works to clear the name of the carnival. Unfortunately the carnival is put on hold after everything, and he joins these new friends of his on a journey towards the large city of Zadash.

On the way, they end up getting dragged into fighting a band of gnolls, saving villagers and killing a manticore. All of that mess draws the group closer together, and when they come to Zadash, they name themselves the Mighty Nein. (Nein being a bit of a pun.)

In Zadash they get involved in some political scheming that ends rather disastrously, and they find themselves under the employment of an underworld boss called 'The Gentleman', who promises to help them get out of trouble if they do some work for him.

Molly also meets Cree there, a tabaxi who calls him 'Lucien' and appears to know him - or more correctly, the person before he was Molly. While he rolls with it, he has no idea what's going on, and has to confide in his friends that he has no past beyond that grave.

They are sent by The Gentleman to explore an old research place, and after being attacked by weird cave creatures they finally get there. They have to go through a lot of puzzles and traps, fighting a ghost and eventually heading back with their findings to The Gentleman. They now have his favor.

Afterwards, they do some random things together in the city, and Molly finally gets to use some choice drugs he bought in Trostenwald that makes him (and a friend) see into the Ethereal Plane.

As the holiday Harvest's Close comes by they enjoy games and food, and Molly buys a huge and gaudy tapestry of the dragon-god Bahamut. There's some revelry, competition, pit fighting and apparently a war is breaking out, too.

They feel like they should probably get out of Zadash, but they are asked by officials to fight as mercenaries in the war. It doesn't sit right with them - but thankfully The Gentleman comes calling with two jobs for the Mighty Nein that will take place outside Zadash, and they accept those offers instead.

On the road, they fight goblins, learn more about each other and cement their friendship even further.

โ— abilities:

As a tiefling, Molly can see in the dark (but in grayscale) and has natural fire resistance (but not immunity). In addition to this, he is a variant tiefling; instead of the abilities the average tiefling has, his is more geared towards various kinds of mind control.

With the Vicious Mockery spell, he can actually use words to do psychic damage by mocking someone, and he also knows Charm Person, which gives him the ability to make someone his friend for an hour. (Once the this spell ends, the person he's used it on knows they have been charmed.) The last tiefling trait is Enthrall, which essentially makes anyone who cannot resist it focus completely on him, unable to look away or move for a minute.

(cw: technically self-harm) Something that carried over from his previous life is his Blood Hunter abilities, which is a class created specifically for Critical Role's D&D world.

By sacrificing his own health, Molly can curse an enemy with blindness or charge any sharp object with frost or radiant magic as long s he's holding it. Doing so he cuts himself to charge his blades, and the curses automatically pop a vein on parts of his extensive tattoos. This he's pretty much covered in scars - it's messy, but effective.

He owns a pendant known as the Periapt of Wound Closure, which heals him a small bit when he's knocked unconscious.

Lastly, he's proficient in fighting with two weapons and has been wielding fairly useless carnival glass scimitars that he charges up with his magic to make them powerful.

โ— strengths:

Keen Eye - Having to create a persona for himself has made Molly an excellent people-reader. He's quick to pick up on details, something that helps him cold-read in his fortune-telling bullshit, and he's quick to make judgements of people and whether or not they're a decent person. This skill also really helps with his lies and stories because he can observe people's reactions and expand them according to them. It's less that he's good at lying specifically - it's more that he's good at knowing what people want and expect from him.

Moral Compass - Although he lies and bullshits his way through life, Molly is good person on the inside, with a stricter moral code than you'd expect a circus trickster to have. He doesn't approve of stealing from those who cannot afford it, only takes what he feels he's deserved and tries to better other people (both in his group and others) with both actual stern lessons and trickery. So far he's shown to be the least likely to screw anyone over, stating he's a liar, but not a betrayer.

Laid-Back - The tiefling is also a very easy-going person that takes a lot of time to anger and does not appear to be easily insulted or have much care for hurt pride. He lives his life to the absolute fullest, and feels like being unhappy and vengeful is a waste of time. He has too much he wants to experience. Whenever there is actual dramatic reactions from him, it's usually for the sake of entertainment.

โ— weaknesses:

Liar - He frequently tells extravagant lies with little mind for whether or not his audience believes them. Most of what he tells people about himself is at least 80% bullshit, and it's even difficult for him to actually be fully honest about who he is - even among friends. It took a magical truth spell for him to actually tell them about his past.

Unknown Origins - As laid-back and unfazed as Molly might seem, who he was before he woke up in that shallow grave frightens him more than anything, and being faced with details from his past are a few of the only times he's been truly upset. Sometimes old things bleeds through, and he hates that. He does not want to damage his own idea of who he is by finding details about his past, quoting quite passionately 'let me make this abundantly clear; my name is Molly. That person is dead and not me.'

Hedonist - With his blindingly colorful clothing, large amounts of jewelry and larger-than life personality, Molly lives for new experiences and isn't ashamed of anything. He finds everything delightful, and is on board for any thrill or high. He does recreational drugs, doesn't mind using courtesans to celebrate and likes to indulge in general. This makes him come off as debauched and can make people write him off as someone shallow and vain - maybe even stereotypically devilish.

Talks Machina Excerpts, Cobalt Soul Archives & My Notes

Mollymauk Supercut
Molly's Tarot Cards Supercut

THE CARNIVAL

Molly was introduced as a promoter for the carnival and as a "fortune-teller" within it. His fortune-telling "abilities" came from card-reading techniques and sleight of hand, not actual magic. He never developed an act for the show itself.

Molly speaks with the same accent as Gustav.

Molly's name was chosen for him by Gustav, because they had to forge papers for him. "Empty, so they started calling him M.T."

Molly sees Gustav as a mentor; within the circus, there are strong parental figures for the whole community, and Gustav filled this role. However, it's not quite a father: "There's unconditional love without reverence."

Molly doesn't miss staying with the circus; "it wasn't going to function without Gustav. There wasn't an adult left."

His stage name with the Carnival of Curiosities was "The Ice Spinner", likely due to his ability to summon ice with his blood.

As part of a scam and initiation test for The Fletching and Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities, he spent three weeks pretending to be a reincarnated royal from overseas.

โ€œWhat the fuck was up with Gustav?โ€ Matt explains that he was the one who originally made the deal with the Devil Toad, who essentially offered to make the carnival great if Gustav could provide him with people to eat. Gustav got around the deal by offering to bring him elderly and infirm after the show (which is why they were barred from the show itself), but everything got completely out of hand. All of this is why Gustav was so guilty and determined to serve out his sentence.

The M9 encountered a mosaic of three creatures and nine eyes. Laura gets Matt to confirm that the carnival in the first episode was all about those three entities.

SEXUALITY/GENDER

Mollymauk's official pronouns are he/him but Taliesin figures he would be chill with anything.

Matt said that Mollymauk was a character who was openly bisexual (or pansexual, see below) and genderfluid in an interview on the DnD Beyond twitch channel.

Molly has been described as having a "difficult to make out gender" from afar, appearance-wise. He specifically protests against using 'male viles' for a plan, and 'pan viles' was thrown in by Nott/Veth instead, and he accepted that... even if she was a little confused in her reasoning.

Jester: I hold onto Molly's horns.
Molly: I'm into this.

Molly very softly and suggestively saying "I like manacles."

About being called 'baby', "I felt demeaned, but in a good way. Felt all tingly."

AMNESIA

Molly woke up more-or-less naked, with shaved hair, and without tattoos (apart from the red ones). The tattoos are partly about rebuilding a persona by covering up the old ones. "Molly is not missing any time or memory. Molly is two years old. There's nothing wrong with him."

Molly's "mild nervous breakdown" after the fight didn't so much have to do with the violence as, potentially, the glow of his sword and newfound aspects of his powers. "Molly's not a tortured soul; he had his nervous breakdown, he's fine."

Molly is feeling like he missed out on "18, 20 years, he doesn't know how old he is", and he has expressed some regret at not experiencing a childhood. He feels like his past is catching up with him, and he's pretty sure he won't survive that if it happens. He feels like he has to experience everything because it's likely to end suddenly.

For now, Molly's decided not to worry about his past catching up to him. "The road's always safer at times like this for him. The minute you start to gain a reputation, cities are where bad things happen. We need to get out of here before they decide that we're dangerous or useful, which are the two worst things to be."

He doesn't care who Lucien was. It doesn't matter if he's a good person or a bad person, it's "I'm made of nothing but the decisions that led me to be this person. You get to decide who you are, and he's very much decided who he is." Brian talks about people being defined by their worst (or best) moments. Taliesin: "He's selected the things that mattered to him, and he's fully in that and not interested in investing in anything else."

When asked about Ghostslayer abilities: "The nervous breakdown wasn't because of the violence."

Taliesin: "I haven't revealed any of Molly's backstory." Brian: "It's all bullshit?" Taliesin: "Is it?" His backstory is, apparently, deeply unimportant to who he is on every level; he's defined by his actions.

YASHA

Yasha knows a little more than the party about Molly. They only knew each other about six months before everyone met in-game, but they have enough shared experiences to understand who each other are and to have each other's backs.

Molly gave Yasha both the four-leaf-clover and a HIGHLY IRONIC BOOK OF MANNERS AND ETIQUETTE she keeps it in, beginning her flower-collecting hobby.

Molly has seen Yasha's wings before, very strong hints that he realized she was an aasimar and kept the carnival from freaking out about it when Creepy Yasha Things started going down. Molly was not surprised when Yasha's wings appeared. He's seen them before. Yasha did feature in the pregame, even though Ashley couldn't be there herself for Session 0. Tal guesses Yasha and Molly have been in probably about 25 fights together so far.

Yasha feels safe with Molly, and finds comfort in the fact that he will never judge her or demand she share more about herself than she offers. He's the reason she joined M9 and keeps coming back to the group. "They stay for each other"

Yasha's introduction to the circus triggered some things in Molly's head, and Yasha feels the safest in turn with Molly. There's no judgment or need to know more about each other's histories within the friendship.

FRIENDS

"He thinks they're cute so far and was definitely meditating upon the notion of taking all their shit and vanishing into the night."

Molly's already made his conclusions about everyone. Caleb thinks Molly is a lot of color, a lot of lies, and a lot of personality, but he's impressed by the talents of every person in the group. It's still better than he was - he's safer and they're getting a lot of gold. Molly: "It's a lot less dramatic than the circus."

In a Mighty Nein Battle Royale for Molly's affections, Jester would win - they have the most in common, and he identifies with how she's full of crap (but doesn't know it yet). He likes having a certain camaraderie with being tieflings walking in the world.

Molly is avoiding Kiri "for the same reason you don't name animals you're going to butcher." He figures she's got to be dealt with at some point in the near future or she's going to be splatted. "I am not getting attached to this creature, because one way or another this creature has to go."

Taliesin on Jester jumping in whenever NPCs flirt with Fjord: "You can't call dibs on people."

"This feels very comfortable and he's not really in the mood to alter that very much. He quite likes everybody, but he's also aware that they need to learn how groups like this function."

While on watch with Beau, Molly revealed that the best lie he ever told was when, as part of a scam and initiation test for The Fletching and Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities, he spent three weeks pretending to be a reincarnated royal from overseas.

According to Taliesin, knowing that his actions helped Beau survive and he would forever have a one up against her, Molly died with no regrets.

PERSONALITY

Basic thing about Molly: "The first thing out of your mouth should never be the truth."

Molly really doesn't like cops. "He's never going to keep his mouth shut."

Taliesin notes that Molly's generally mistrustful of humans.

Molly mainly gets motivated to follow plots based on the fact that he enjoys camping and new places.

On Mollymauk insisting on paying the silver piece for the horse: "He is one of the most moral characters I've ever played." He's got a serious code that he lives by. "There's a fairness to the universe and you should abide by it, and if it isn't fair then you should correct it."

Taliesin on Molly: "He is constantly delighted by shit. He finds life delightful, he finds everything delightful. Any thrill or high or otherwise, he is on board. That is what he does with his free time, which he has not had this week."

Part of why Molly's so decked out is because everyone else's reactions to that can tell a lot about who they are as people and how they can be manipulated. He puts his flamboyance out there in order to see how people react to him and see what kind of person they are. He's basically making snap judgments on people based on what he interprets as their snap judgments of him.

Molly's very much a when-in-doubt-say-yes person, so the opportunity to go along with the others rather than staying with the remains of his old life was hard to resist. "Better to be moving at high speed towards a wall than standing still."

Other than some scams, this is the most money Molly's seen in some time; he's not thinking too much about what might be pulling the strings behind all this.

Taliesin said that Molly has never really been alone and wouldn't be able to handle it.

Molly's happy to help out with the orphans, but it seemed like too much work for people they didn't know. Beau and Molly are both primarily motivated by wanting to help Fjord. Taliesin: "I'll feel better once there's a plan."

Personal Creed:
You don't steal from those who can't afford it
There's a fairness to the universe
You do what you took the money for
If there's something unfair about the universe you fix it

Moonweaver Creed:
Seize your own destiny by pursuing your passions
Let the shadows protect you from the burning light of fanatical good and the absolute darkness of evil
Walk unbridled and untethered, finding and forging new memories and experiences

Molly has been overpaying for things the entire game on purpose, and believes that the purpose of money is to make other people happy.

If Molly's giving advice to people outside the group, it's usually bullshitting, but inside the group, he's probably speaking from genuine experience in his two years with the circus. He did have a baseline of information going in. "There's information in his head, but it's just not all necessarily useful information."

On Molly using coercion-type magic on allies despite his strong moral convictions: "It's really easy to do if you are the center of your moral reality." He believes he's smart enough not to do anything wrong. "It works until it doesn't." He's also technically a worshiper of a god of lies. Whenever he does use spells like that, it tends to be punitive or whatever he considers to be helpful for that person. "It's definitely not something a normal, healthy person should do."

Molly just went for the insomnia potion/sleeping tea because it seemed interesting and he "wanted options". "But no, Molly sleeps like a baby." He's got a pretty clean slate after only two years.

Molly's "a big believer in playing hard." Molly's seen a huge part of the countryside traveling with the circus, but he just never learned the names of most of the cities because it was never a priority. "He sees a party, he's into this, and I'm just going to meet if not exceed the energy level wherever I'm at."

Molly has a deep distrust of staying in one place, exacerbated by knowing that "no one wants zany, kooky friends in their city" when wars begin around them. The people in power will start looking for spies, conscriptions, and "loud-looking people." Their ability to fly under the radar is over - they're too powerful to hide now. These cities are not places where niceness is necessarily rewarded.

Taliesin leans into Molly's charm (despite having a lackluster CHA stat) in part because he knows that due to how he looks, the world is a bit against him anyway. It's a strong Priscilla, Queen of the Desert vibe.

The notion of civilizing influences; Taliesin doesn't think Mollymauk has any. As a worldview, he brings up a couple lines from Don't Let's Start by They Might Be Giants: "No one in the world ever gets what they want and that is beautiful / Everybody dies frustrated and sad and that is beautiful".

Taliesin describes Molly as "a kind of shitty person who's fucking got your back."

ABILITIES

Molly's using Vicious Mockery entirely through intimidation. He's also entirely talking bullshit; if Jester didn't also speak Infernal, he'd just be blatantly saying nonsense words in a scary voice.

Molly's Devil's Tongue comes from himself, not Lucien. He knows he can speak Infernal and figured out that speaking it hard enough could make people bleed. The voice he uses comes from mimicking the Charm of Making from Excalibur.

MISC

The pendant is very specific.

The coat is embroidered silk, and a hand-me-down, most likely from Gustav or Desmond. There are a lot of the symbols on his coat, including all the symbols of the Exandrian deities. The back has a sun/moon combo where the sun is a skull. Mentioned by Taliesin on the mini painting show, but later retconned on his official action figure.

Mollymauk's deck is an original creation of Taliesin's, still in progress. He worked with his brothers (one makes games and one DMs) to start putting it together. In-game, Molly made it himself and has several unfinished ones.

Molly's tattoos are both meaningful and just because they're cool.

Molly first awoke with nine red eye tattoo on him. Mentioned are the right side of his neck, on his right shoulder, and one eye on back and palm of his right hand. Integrating and concealing these eyes, he had a serpent tattoo made that curled all along the length of his right hand and up his arm, that wove into a floral piece on his shoulder, and then into a peacock that ran up the side of his face. Although he had tried to tattoo over the eyes they would not take ink.

Between his shoulder blades rising towards the hairline, he had tattoos of an eye within a pyramid, eliminated by another eye above it. Flanking and connecting through it like a mantle, he had a moon and sun tattoo.

Alternate classes considered for Molly included bard and warlock.

He went Ghostslayer because it fit the "ghoulish" direction he wanted to take the character/class.
